Daniel Linz
As a child I would paint with my grandmother on the banks of the Ohio River. She would say to me "Don't paint the river, paint the water." I begin my paintings with a direct representation of nature, most often a tree or group of trees, or trees in the urban landscape. Then continue to work the image to extract more of its essence. I try to establish the comfortable identifiable elements of landscape then proceed to move and extend those elements to an edge of sorts through line and form and color.
